Laser Scanner Technology

CCE London invested in the Leica BLK360 to enable the business to quickly survey complex room environments in one single visit and utilise that detail to prepare in-depth designs.

As commercial kitchen sizes vary from huge installations to tiny spaces, with the complexity of a survey area, investing in this and using a laser scanner was obvious to us. The wide-ranging geometric data capturing and the high data density, in combination with fast measuring speed, and the addition of the instrument’s measuring precision (accurate to within 8mm at a range of 20m), and ease of use makes the laser scanner an important piece of our arsenal.

Our working processes had to change from the traditional measuring methods and are now supplemented or replaced by the laser scanner. In the past, we visited sites multiple times to ensure the accuracy of all measurements, especially when manufacturing the bespoke fabrication. With the help of the laser scanner and the capture software, recurring visits to our sites are no longer needed. All measurements for follow-up work can now be carried out digitally using the images produced by the laser scanner.

We can use the data to develop 3D visualisation and virtual fly-through experiences for our clients and it enables our teams to collaborate with any partners throughout the planning, design, and sign-off.

Ultimately, when deploying 3D scanning technology, our designers can capture the existing data and dimensions of any space with extremely high detail so plans can then be developed accurately.
